Route Distance: 100 Miles

Starting Location:  200 Missouri Ave, Jeffersonville, IN 47130, USA

Route Description:

Melissa (Puddle) Hall created this interesting route years ago - thanks Melissa! The naming of the route is unique because we make our way to a Maple Syrup Festival near Salem, Indiana. http://www.lmsugarbush.com/ this is the 32nd year of the festival. There are food vendors at the festival so this serves as our lunch stop. It is in a rural area, bring cash in case technology is not having a good day. There is music and wild west, bank robber, shootout reenactments. there are three stops including the festival.

I will be the sweeper for the ride. Please wear hi-viz items and ride with a working rear blinkey. If you normally only carry one spare tube, please carry two. Modern bike tires seem to offer better flat protection against the cinders than they used to, but be prepared. It is normally busy at the Festival - take your time and enjoy it.

UPDATE: After scouting the route on 2/3/2023. First stop and last stop of the ride both utilize the Shell Station in Henryville. Our first stop is at 27.4 miles, the second is the Festival at 56 miles and the final stop is again in Henryville at mile 73. At least you will know where your favorite beverage and snack items are.

CAUTION: There were a lot of cinders on most of the more rural roads when I scouted the route. Cinders look like black sand, they are spread on the roads during winter. The car traffic tends to clear the cinders from off of the direct areas where the cars travel but this deposits them on the shoulders of the roads where cyclists ride. Stay out of the cinders as much as you can. They build up in a layer in many areas and this layer can become slick like sand or very fine gravel.

CAUTION: DOWNHILL / DECENT into Leota at mile 60. This downhill has cinders on the shoulders and in the center of the lanes. It is a steep decent that requires caution even during the best of summer and it can be especially dangerous when there are cinders on the roads.

The route shows 1% gravel on RWGPS, there are not any gravel sections.
