NOTICE: LBC Club Rides are not RACES!  Racing on Club Rides will not be condoned.

 Wednesday Jan 1, 2014          New Year's Day

11:00am                              Polar Bear Ride and Chili Cook-Off

Help us ring in the New Year! Mileage will depend on the weather. The Chili Cook-off and Potluck lunch will be Rain or Shine. After the ride, chili and drinks will be provided. Bring a side dish or desert--FOCUS ON SIDE DISHES. WE HAD MORE DESSERTS THAN WE NEEDED LAST YEAR! The format for this year’s ride and pot luck lunch will be the same as last year with a Chili Cook-Off. There will again be 2 divisions; Vegetarian and Traditional, with the winner of each category receiving a $100 Gift Certificate to a local bike shop. Six judges will be selected randomly the morning of the Polar Bear Ride. There isn’t a kitchen available in the room we’ve rented, so you’ll need to prepare your chili in advance and bring a crock-pot or slow cooker to keep it warm. If you choose to enter your chili for judging and the chance at the $100 gift certificates please contact Bobbie Leslie by Dec. 23. There will also be the Annual SWAP MEET before and after the Polar Bear Ride, so dig out the bike stuff you don’t need anymore and sell or trade it for something you might need! A General Membership Meeting of the LBC will follow the Polar Bear Ride and SWAP MEET at 1 PM.  RC: Party Planning Committee Chair Bobbie Leslie at 502.548.4167. Bobbie can also be reached via email; bandbl@twc.com

Commisky Gravel Adventure Ride. Commisky Post Office. Get ready for an adventure! This ride will be ridden on a variety of road surfaces, so expect to bring a cross, mtb or other bike that can handle larger treaded tires. Part of the adventure is that the roads will be mostly unknown, as even the ride captain will likely not have seen them before, so expect to be rerouted if roads are closed or impassible, ideally we will stay together as a group so nobody gets lost (or at least nobody is lost alone). Things to expect: pavement, gravel, dirt, mud, water crossings, trees down across roads, stores that aren't actually open. Roads without signs, roads that disappear into nothingness and require bushwacking through the woods to reach where the road reappears on the other side. Be prepared: bring enough food and water to handle the expected mileage and then some. Tools and such to fix any problems that you may have. Be prepared to push your bike up some impossibly steep, boulder strewn roads. Most of all be prepared to have fun!  RC:Timothy Stephen: barturtle@gmail.com
