    2011 OKHT Registration is open!

Registration is now open for the 2011 Old Kentucky Home Tour.  The dates for this years OKHT are Saturday September 10th and Sunday September 11th.  You can register online through active.com, which can be accessed through the club webpage.  If you want to volunteer for the OKHT, you’ll need to fill out the form and mail it to the address on the form.  We’re exploring how we might be able to make the volunteer process paperless, but for now, we’re doing it by paper.  ALL VOLUNTEERS NEED TO FILL OUT A REGISTRATION FORM!  Here’s a picture of a Registration Form filled out.

Fill the form out carefully.  Make sure to put VOLUNTEER on the form.  For an 8 hour commitment, volunteers will receive their ride registration plus the Official 2011 OKHT T-Shirt, so we’ll need to get your shirt size.  If you want to order the commemorative jersey designed by John Mahorney, you’ll need to order it on this form and include the payment when you send the form in.  Same thing with ordering Saturday Evening Dinner.  If you want a delicious Chris Cakes prepared Pulled Pork Bar-B-Que dinner or Vegetarian Burger dinner, you need to make your selection and send in payment with your registration form.

Also, keep in mind we’ll need fresh-baked cookies for the World Famous Cookie Stop, Sunday morning.  Bring your cookies with you when you pick-up your registration packet and we’ll see that they get to the Cookie Stop safely!

We need lots of help, so we hope you’ll consider volunteering to help make the 2011 OKHT a success.  I’ve spoken with a number of folks who have said they want to help.  THANK YOU!  Keep in mind, ALL VOLUNTEERS NEED TO FILL OUT A REGISTRATION FORM.

    Life is good

After careful consideration and lengthy yet fruitful debate, the Executive Committee is very pleased and excited to announce the that following individuals have accepted appointments to the leadership of the club:

VP - Treasurer - Jody Patterson - Jody is a fairly new member of the club, and an active Mad Dog and Randonneur.  She comes to the role with over a decade of experience in the bookkeeping and accounting world, along with a familiarity with the bookkeeping software the club uses.

VP of Touring - Charlie Drexler - An LBC member off and on since 1991, Charlie brings a fresh perspective to the role along with significant experience in the professional world where his experience will come in handy with the organization and forward progress of the club's Touring agenda.

President - Andy Murphy - Andy's enthusiasm and spirit for the club are well-known and recognized by anyone who has ridden with him. We also recognize that it is important to honor the recommendation we heard from the attendees at the last general meeting. There are many hefty challenges ahead for all of us, and Andy will no doubt have his share of fence mending to do. We trust that his many good qualities, for which he was first elected to this office, will see him and the club though the work ahead.

Touring Committee - The ExCom felt that it was unfair to the new VP of Touring to appoint the entire committee without involving the newly-appointed officer in the selection process.  Therefore, we are going to wait a couple weeks before finalizing those appointments.  The plan to build a structured committee of riders to help build the touring vision for the future remains very important to the ExCom.

The restored ExCom will be meeting for the first time this weekend to continue the missions we set forth at the last general membership meeting.  We will provide updates as the news warrants.  The e-mail links and contact information on the club site will be redirected to the proper folks at that time as well.

Thanks to all of the club members who stepped forward and applied for the available roles!  We were really pleased with the applicants, which made the process a little tougher, but very satisfying.

Also, we owe a great deal of thanks to the members of the club who have been so patient and supportive while the ExCom worked through these transitions.

    Ride safely,
    Your Executive Committee

Follow the attached link to the opening statement that I presented at the meeting this weekend.  It outlines our various action plans, and also covers the items we need if you choose to submit your application for any one of the available roles with the LBC.

    They include:
    President
    Treasurer
    VP of Touring
    OKHT Director
Nine additional members of the formalized Touring Committee

You have until the end of May to send us your information as described, which should include your vision for the role and what you bring to the role itself.  The ExCom will review these in early June, and will announce our decisions at that time.

The Treasurer's annual report for 2010 may be accessed from the member's forum.

Note: The report was received for the May/June newsletter but inadvertently omitted.  I apologize for the oversight.
